On August 19th I went to the Alpena County Fair tractor pull.
I pulled with a 1968 155 Case garden tractor owned by my Grandpa Mark Dubie (my dad and grandpa dug it out of the weeds that it has sat in for the past 15yrs). It is completely stock except for safety stuff like wheely bars and weights. I pulled in three classes, I did okay my first time but learned by accident that I could control my throttle lever (that kept popping up) which made me pull a little smoother, so I pulled better my other two runs. I finished in last place in open outlaw class (so really modified) so I still considered that an accomplishment.

Since 1969 at least one member of the Dubie family has pulled at the Alpena County Fair.
I got the privilege to ride in the Sled with Jim Storm behind my grandpa. A sled is what the tractor is hooked to. It has a sliding adjustable weight box that makes the weight transfer to the front which makes it harder for the tractor to pull. It is a very hard job to operate the sled, Jim makes a lot of quick decisions using the gauges, levers and buttons. He has everything labeled. Even though it is a lot of work, Jim makes it look easy because he knows what he is doing. It is a bumpy and faster ride than it looks. He works hard to keep everyone safe.

Jim’s wife Sue is very nice, she is a TTPA official, she runs the scales which makes sure everyone is legal weight.

I had so much fun.
Thank you, Alpena County Fair, TTPA, Jim, Sue, Grandpa (Mark Dubie), Dad and Mom and Levi Dubie (for the use of his fire suit).
See you at the races (or tractor pull)!
DeLayna Dubie
