On October 4th I went to the Bob Finley Memorial at Owosso Speedway.
Owosso is a beautiful racetrack. We sat on the backstretch in huge comfortable grandstands. The grandstands are fully enclosed which made me feel so safe and comfortable, and they have really awesome handicap accessible areas at different levels so that even from a wheelchair you can enjoy watching the races and still be by your family. I also think that it is awesome that they have a shuttle service to and from the parking lot, so with my newly healing broken leg I got to ride in a limo style golf cart instead of having to walk too far.

I sat in the family section which doesnt allow any smoking, drinking or cursing. I like these family friendly areas. I got to meet and visit with a very nice family. Becky Holden, Slim Holden, Richard Carpenter and Ron Carpenter (My mom and Ron enjoyed chatting a lot about a lot of the olden day racers and races).
This track is well lit and I love the multi-colored lights that they flash with the music before the features. It is as good as a good fireworks show (maybe even better because fireworks have the noise that I don’t care for).

I really like their fancy pace car and enjoyed seeing all the Northside Towing trucks.

I am a big tow truck fan. My Great-Grandpa Bill Payne, My Great-Uncle Russ Payne, and my cousin Ken Payne and my cousin Michael Payne were/are tow truck operators. Owosso Speedway helped recognize the charity Hit While Helping My Great-Grandpa Bill was hit by a drunk driver while operating his tow truck. He suffered a brain injury which he later died from (which is what partly made me decide that I want to be a neuroscientist when I grow up). This is a great organization that is trying to help keep great people like my family safe while they work doing hard jobs on the side of the road, so check them out at https://hitwhilehelping.org/

I cant wait to go back to Ovid, Michigan and the Owosso Speedway next summer and see all the new improvements they are making. It is an awesome place and it looks like they even want it to be better.
Thank you for reading and I’ll see you at the races!
