Living the Dream…At Eldora Speedway

Earl Pearson Jr. (no.44) and Jared Landers (no.5) prepare for the start of heat race #1.

AWESOME!…That single word is what best describes Eldora Speedway and the annual Dream 100.

On June 8-9th Eldora once again was a playground for the best of the best in the world of Dirt Late Model drivers.   Ninety-Eight high compression, dirt throwing, wind whipping Late Models filled the pits for the event, each driver hoping to land a spot in victory lane holding a $100,000.00 check and the honor of having won one of dirt track racings crown jewel events. Breaking the Ice at I-96 Speedway

Haulers line up for entrance into the Ice Breaker and the first race on the Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour 2012 schedule

A rain induced opening weekend postponement for I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan aligned an amazing May 5th opening weekend for the 3/8-mile dirt track just off the expressway.  Playing host to the Dirt Cup Modified tour season opener for the second year in a row the pits were filled with 118 cars in four divisions and boasted nearly 40 UMP Modifieds. Hot Racing On A Cold Night at Crystal Motor Speedway

Flinn Blvd. was heavily trafficked on Saturday, April 21st.

With temperatures not even reaching the 50 degree mark on April 21st one would think that the bleachers would be nearly empty at tracks like Crystal Motor Speedway, but CMS shivered through week two of their 2012 season with a full show featuring six divisions before a nearly packed set of grandstands. Before the first car even took to the speedway several brave fans in hooded sweatshirts sat in the stands ready for the awesome racing action that is always present at CMS. Spring is HERE!

Spring has sprung in Northern Michigan!

ITS OFFICIAL!!!  The 2012 racing season is underway and with it comes the exciting promise of the smell of race fuel, the burning of tires, and fast cars.  It is also a reminder that despite some seriously cold temperatures at present, the sun will soon be shining down for comfortable summer evenings.  Evenings that I hope to spend eating the best weekend meal (hot dogs and nacho’s) and sitting in my favorite seat (a wooden plank) and enjoying the very best form of entertainment. RallyCross goes off track at Crystal Motor Speedway

There was some mud-slinging action at Crystal Motor Speedway's March 10th RallyCross Event.

“Real Cars! Real Fast!” is often the motto associated with rally racing, and although stage rally’s definitely live up to the slogan, there is no place where that slogan is more fitting than in RallyCross.

RallyCross is a true test of production equipment, there are no mandates for a roll cage, no installation of race seats and safety belts; instead you or I could take our daily driver, pay a registration fee, strap on a helmet and tackle the course. SubaRoots Rally: Carrying on The Dream

(SubaRoots Rally Photo)

In just one week Rally Cars will invade northern Michigan and I am definitely ready for some exciting heart-pumping rally action!

Although this annual event is always filled with excitement, this year will have even more intensity as drivers, volunteers, and enthusiasts pay tribute to a man who changed the sport of rally racing forever. Continue reading “SubaRoots Rally: Carrying on The Dream”

Sno*Drift ProRally: Hot Racing Action in Cold Temperatures

Even though there is snow on the ground up here in Northern Michigan, it in no way signifies that you can’t see some spectacular racing action.   In fact, on January 27-28th the back roads of Montmorency County will be coming alive with high speed action when the Sno*Drift ProRally invades the otherwise serene county. Making history at Eldora’s 4-Crown Nationals

Damion Gardner (no.71) and Chris Windom (no.5x) tackle the Big E @ the 4-Crown Nationals in September.

When it comes to all out fender-free racing no place compares to Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio;  especially, in late September at the 4-Crown Nationals.

For 30-years the 4-Crown Nationals has been open-wheel racing heaven.   Under the current format the WoO 410 winged Sprinters do battle on Friday night, while Saturday features a topless trio of USAC Sprints, Midgets, and Silver Crown Cars.  Add into the mix annual running of USAC .25 Midget Dirt Nationals at little Eldora and there is certainly no break in the racing excitement.
