Rain in Ohio…

Old cars sit abandoned by a barn in Ohio

Last weekend (April 9th) I attempted to kick off spring with some great dirt-track racing action; unfortunately the weather was uncooperative.  A forecast of 70º and sunny for Eldora Speedway turned to 53º with nasty thunderstorms in the blink of an eye washing away the chance of the Saturday night portion of the Coca-Cola Spring Classic.

Although Friday and Saturday were scheduled to be  independent events with each night featuring a full show for USAC Sprints, UMP Modifieds and UMP Stock Cars; Friday was also a wash with heavy fog cancelling the event after the completion of heat races.

My weekend definitely didn’t go as planned, but my family and I still enjoyed a day of driving through Ohio & Indiana on the back country roads taking pictures and seeing new sights; including the KitchenAid Factory Store in downtown Greenville, Ohio.  With cooking classes every Saturday morning at 10:30am I have a feeling this will be a planned stop on future Eldora visits.

I have officially experienced my first rain-out of the 2011 season, and although there is some disappointment, there is also excitement.  Knowing that a race has been cancelled means one very significant thing; RACING SEASON HAS STARTED!

Winston & Crystal Motor Speedway will open their gates this weekend (April 15-16th) with many more tracks around the area to follow suit on the 22nd-23rd and if the weather holds out I will be seeing you when the next green flag flies!
